Lunice enlists Edinburgh based producer Dansa to Remix “No Commas (feat. Cali Cartier)” the lead single from his new album OPEN out June 23rd. Taking the track in a completely different direction from the original and eschewing the chorus completely Dansa reimagines “No Commas” as a full on club banger cut from the same cloth as vintage Night Slugs/Fade to Mind tracks. Best experienced on the dancefloor.
I will say that drums sound like they sampled trash cans and compressed the crap out of them.
Dansa heads up the Palidrone label and club night responsible for bringing the likes of Giant Swan, Dj Stingray, VTSS, DMX Krew, Errorsmith, Lorraine James, Proc Fiskal, Teki Latex, Tim Reaper and many more to the Scottish capital. A well respected DJ he launched the Palidrone label in 2022 releasing music by J-Wax (Future Classic) as well as his own showstopping EP – Kill the body and the head will die.
It has been 6 years since Lunice’s debut CCCLX. In the time since, he has released numerous singles, remixes and contributed to video game and movie soundtracks as well as consistently touring his legendary live show which pairs in-your-face hip hop with menacing electronic beats. For OPEN he has concentrated on making a more dynamic album than its predecessor – every track made with the intention of translating to the live experience. The collaborators on this album –– Cali Cartier, Stargate, Zach Zoya, Yuki Dreams Again, Jay Century, DAGR and Grammy-winning producer DRTWRK (Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Joyner Lucas, Denzel Curry etc) –– are a showcase of dynamic new rappers and young producers who all match Lunice’s energy as he takes you on a bizarre ride through the Montreal underground.
