New York songbird Liana Bank$ enters 2023 with “Petty,” a sharp new single that channels romance and revenge into catchy, melody-driven catharsis. Out now via UnitedMasters, it finds Bank$ honoring her emotions and making space to authentically feel with no shame or strings attached.
“Petty” is the latest example of Bank$’s ability to find solace through the power of music while reflecting how audiences feel. This time around, the Queens composer links up with fellow rap girlies Lola Brooke and Cleotrapa to show that sometimes it’s okay to be petty. And in return, the brigade of baddies are left feeling fulfilled after turning the tables in a toxic relationship.
Behind the track, Liana Bank$ shares: “I’ve taken the high road a lot in my life. I guess I’m pretty big on karma. It’s a lot of 59th st, Brooklyn Bridge & Verazzano energy, but sometimes you gotta midtown tunnel it. They go low, you go low. Petty LaBelle.” Verging on vindictive, the Jillian Iscaro-directed video transitions from the nail spa to the boxing ring, capturing the song’s unapologetically bitter tone through stress-relieving activities.
